Brown & Burnes is a litigation boutique which confines its practice to insurance-related litigation, acting primarily for insurers.
After his call to the bar in 1964, Lyle Brown, Q.C., began his career with an insurance litigation firm. In 1980, he established the law firm of Brown & Forbes. John Burnes joined Brown & Forbes as a partner in 1988 and, in 1998, Lyle Brown and John Burnes formed the partnership of Brown & Burnes.
Since its inception, Brown & Burnes has earned a reputation for providing exceptional service to our clients. We recognize the importance of delivering a proactive and thoughtful defence, while meeting all reporting expectations. We know each of our files well and handle every one with the utmost care. We are focused on keeping our clients informed at every step of litigation, working in partnership with our claims handlers.
Our firm has grown to include 12 skilled litigators, representing over 165 years of legal experience, all with highly specialized expertise. Our lawyers have handled mediations, arbitrations, inquests, hearings and trials at various levels of the judiciary, including the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, the Landlord and Tenant Board, the Small Claims Court, the Ontario Court of Justice, the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Appeal.
