John M. Burnes

John is the senior partner at Brown & Burnes. He has practiced insurance litigation exclusively for over 30 years.

John graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1978, after which he earned his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Windsor in 1981. He completed the Harvard Mediation Workshop in 1995.

John began his practice at our predecessor law firm, Brown & Forbes. In 1998, he became a founding partner of Brown & Burnes, along with E. Lyle Brown, Q.C.

John was the Chairman of the Banting Research Foundation from 2000 to 2009. In 2007 and 2008, he was the Chair of the Insurance Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association. In addition, from 2007 to 2009, he acted as the President of Mary Centre, a non-profit organization that assists adults and seniors with developmental challenges. John remains an active volunteer for these organizations.

John is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association, the Ontario Bar Association, Canadian Defence Lawyers and the Advocates’ Society.

Zenon Fedorowycz

Zenon Fedorowycz

Zenon brings 30 years of experience in the practice of law to Brown & Burnes. Zenon completed his Honours Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto in 1976, and earned his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Windsor in 1981. He was called to the bar in 1983.

Prior to joining Brown & Burnes in 2009, Zenon practiced primarily as in-house counsel for insurers, including Hartford Fire Insurance Company, Royal & SunAlliance Insurance Company of Canada and the Ontario School Boards’ Insurance Exchange. He has focused exclusively on insurance defence litigation throughout his career.

At Brown & Burnes, Zenon handles a variety of insurance-related matters, with a focus on personal injury, property damage, product liability and coverage issues.

Dena has had a diverse career in law since her call to the bar in 1985, providing her with experience in wills and estates, real estate law, labour law and all sides of civil litigation. Dena has extensive experience in insurance defence litigation, including practicing both in-house and at the firm level.

Les continues to provide consultation assistance to our team members on a broad range of commercial general liability and personal injury matters.

As a partner at Macleod Dixon until 2003, Les successfully handled many disputes on behalf of the firm’s international base of energy and resource clients, and has experience advising clients on trade and project-related matters in Latin America.

Les earned a Bachelor of Science from Liberty Baptist College in 1975, and completed his Bachelor of Laws at the University of Windsor in 1985. He was called to the bar in Alberta in 1986, and in Ontario in 1987.

Les is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Council of Americas and past member of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Institute, the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada and the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce. Les also holds his licence to practice foreign law in Brazil.


Adrian D. King

Adrian’s practice relates primarily to insurance defence work, including the defence of motor vehicle accident, occupiers’ liability and product liability claims.

Adrian has been elected to the Council of the Ontario Bar Association for three consecutive terms since 2008. He was also elected Chairperson of the Ontario Bar Association Awards Committee for 2011 and 2012, and is presently appointed to the Ontario Bar Association Audit and Membership Committees.

Adrian enjoys giving back to his community. Since 2005, he has been a Director of the East York Foundation, which is mandated to enhance and protect the culture, assets and heritage of the former Borough of East York.

Adrian is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association, the Ontario Bar Association and Canadian Defence Lawyers.

Andrew articled at the Law Offices of David Midanik, a prominent Toronto criminal defence firm.

Following his articles, Andrew went on to practice criminal law in addition to personal injury litigation in Hamilton with a well respected Hamilton multi-service firm. Andrew returned to Toronto and joined a prominent insurance litigation boutique, and has been exclusively practicing insurance litigation since 2012.

Andrew proudly joined Brown & Burnes in 2014, where he now enjoys a practice consisting of insurance defence claims related to motor vehicle accident, property damage, occupier’s liability, construction, and product liability claims.
