John M. Burnes

John completed the Harvard Mediation Workshop through the Advocates Society in 1995.

John Burnes has practiced for over 30 years with an emphasis on personal injury, property damage (including insurance appraisal – Umpire), and construction claims with attendance before all courts in Ontario. In mediation work, John has focused on the ability to identify issues, be thorough, patient and persistent in focusing the attention of the parties on individual issues and resolution. This requires balance and communication to have the trust of all parties engaged.

John was the Chairman of the Banting Foundation from 2000 to 2009. In 2007 and 2008, he was the Chair of the Insurance Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association. In addition, from 2007 to 2009, he acted as the President of Mary Centre, a non-profit organization that assists adults and seniors with developmental challenges.
